Public School or Private School?


Many parents are re-evaluating their educational choices based on their personal beliefs, priorities, past experiences, etc. We have 2 public school systems in Pagosa, the traditional elementary through high school track downtown and Pagosa Peak Open School next to Walmart.

In contrast, we have 3 private Christian schools: Valor Academy (a blended model 3 days in the classroom - 2 days of homeschool), Our Savior's Lutheran, and our relatively new school in Aspen Springs, Agape Christian Academy, both 5 day a week in person programs. We are open to enrolling K-12 students in a one room school house style of education at ACA...

Our Archuleta County Public School system has many quality teachers and employees. They are our friends, neighbors, even fellow church members. However, the laws and policies being made in Washington D.C. and Denver Colorado are working their way here. These laws and policies are detrimental for our children's education and character formation. Test scores throughout our state are abysmal. The character values of the big cities are incompatible with our small town. Teachers are faced with obeying the inappropriate educational laws and policies or standing up for our local traditional values. Schoolbook Publishers are selling textbooks that teach revisionist history, marxism, gender confusion, critical race theory, etc. and school districts are purchasing them. Therefore, even those parents and teachers who do not want the children learning this, are pushed into using the district provided curriculum developed in Washington D.C. and Denver, Colorado.
